Artist
Toni Schmale
An invited competition was held for a new circular path around Mauterndorf Castle and six artists were invited to develop an artistic intervention for this special place.
A jury of experts, representatives of the castle administration, the market town of Mauterndorf, architects and landscape planners recommended the concept of a drawbridge by Toni Schmale for realisation.
Due to the optimal material properties for large spans, steel was used for the 35-metre-long drawbridge. Reinforced concrete blocks with rock nails were anchored in the subsoil for the attachment to the slope and as a foundation. The supporting forces are transferred to the load-bearing subsoil via these nails.
