Trophy for the Timber Innovation Award by werkraum ingenieure

The 2026 Austrian State Prize for Timber Construction recognizes outstanding timber buildings at the national level for the first time. The selection process focused on criteria such as architectural and design quality, the appropriate and innovative use of wood, resource-efficient material utilization, and contributions to CO2 reduction and the circular economy.

From 41 nominated timber construction projects, an international jury of experts selected 3 main prizes and 2 honorable mentions. Additionally, new material applications were honored with the Timber Innovation Award.

The trophy for the Innovation Award was designed and built by werkraum ingenieure.

The following entries were awarded the Timber Innovation Award: A project by JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH, MATERIALS on electrically conductive wood surfaces (1st place), a project by Wood Vision Lab on hardwood as a high-performance material (2nd place), and a project by Rubner Holzindustrie GmbH, Rubner Holzbau GmbH, Nordpan GmbH, and Holzforschung Austria on a second life cycle in wood recycling (3rd place).
