Start of construction: New public indoor swimming pool in Klagenfurt
The new Klagenfurt indoor swimming pool is located right next to the stadium and surrounded by large green spaces and open areas. Up to 700 swimmers will be expected daily.
The client, Stadtwerke Klagenfurt, is equipping the new “Alpe-Adria-Sportbad” with a 50-meter competition pool and an Olympic training center. As a result, the new indoor pool will also have international significance in the future.

The construction site is already bustling with activity: Since the beginning of the year, the main focus has been on the site’s foundation. Two large construction machines are compacting the subsoil to a depth of eleven meters at over 1,700 points using the so-called “vibrocompaction method” to optimize the soil conditions for subsequent construction work.
Groundwater lowering for excavation work was achieved in February by constructing a “thin-walled basin.” To do this, concrete columns 24 meters deep and 10 centimeters wide were cast into the ground. This created walls underground that ultimately formed a sealed basin. Using pumps and wells, the groundwater level in this basin is maintained at 20 meters during construction.
