Françoise Schein’s artist work in Vienna at Platz der Menschenrechte

The artwork in public space “Vienna banquet of human rights & his guardians” of Belgian Artist Françoise Schein was formally opened on 14th June 2018.

From now on you can visit the artwork every day in Vienna at Platz der Menschenrechte (at the beginning of Mariahilfer Straße, right before the Museumsquartier).

The project consists of two major elements: A 10 metre long table with parallel benches and a big red question mark, which the artist Schein has marked over the place. The table is covered: White tiles are on the top of the table and articles of human rights are quoted on painted plates.

With the name “Platz der Menschenrechte“ (Square of human rights) for a central, highly frequented place, plus the artwork, Vienna enrolled universal human rights symbolically in public space in Vienna.

The project was initiated in 2016 by the district Neubau and KÖR – Kunst im öffentlichen Raum GmbH. Françoise Schein suceeded as winner out of a competition. The technical examination was carried out by werkraum ingenieure.
