Flying whale landed at Wien Museum!

The legendary whale of the inn “Zum Walfisch” from the Prater was saved from destruction in 2013 by the company commissioned to demolish it and handed over to the Wien Museum three years later. The municipal collection thus received an impressive object of Prater history and Viennese everyday culture.

In the museum depot in Himberg in Lower Austria, the ten-metre-long, 1.5-ton whale has been professionally restored in recent years.

werkraum ingenieure accompanied the whale from the reinforcement of the wooden interior construction to the conception and dimensioning of the suspension in the new Wien Museum.

After being brought into the museum, hoisted up using winches and the suspension points checked, the metal whale in the atrium of the Wien Museum will be the first and largest object in the collection to greet future Wien Museum visitors from a lofty height from 2023 onwards.
